I’m really looking forward to this event! I’m pretty new to using meetup.com, and have found that groups are really hit or miss. Previously, I’ve chosen to attend specific meetups with the intention of expanding my professional network, but I’ve learned that you’re better off choosing a meetup group that interests you, and attending without specific expectations.
The latest Meetup group that I’ve joined is called Third Tuesday Vancouver. The groups’s next event is Social Media and the 2010 Olympic Games: The Future of Citizen Journalism. It’s being held on Tuesday March 23rd at Ceili’s Irish Pub at 6pm – one week from today!
This is a unique meetup in that the organizers have three panelists coming to begin the group’s discussion. Ultimately, the conversation is about the trajectory of citizen journalism. During the Olympic Games in Vancouver, social media played a unique role, enabling stories to be told outside of the IOC’s jurisdiction, with a global reach. It will be interesting to talk about the role of social media during the Games, and where it could go from here.
Rebecc
a Bolwitt (best known as Miss 604), John Biehler (conference speaker and E-business analyst) and Kris Krug (photographer and media consultant) makeup the locally-based panel. Each of these social media leaders were True North Media House reporters during the Olympic Games, and continue to provide media coverage for the Paralympic Games.
I’m really looking forward to hearing how the concept of True North Media House (TNMH) came about, and where each panelist sees social media moving from here.
Come out and join the discussion!
