Just a couple of months ago, some of my co-workers at the Vancouver Civic Theatres approached me about running the annual Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life with them. Kristen, a co-worker who had completed the Relay for Life last year, suggested that our group’s goal be $10,000. Although we are a group of nine women fundraising for the same cause, I never really thought that we would get close to our goal.
The Relay for Life is a 12-hour group relay. Prior to the relay, each group (and each individual) sets a fundraising goal. All money raised is donated to the Canadian Cancer Society, and the event takes place once each year. Our group is called the Vancouver Civic Theatre Drama Queens.
Now that we’re just less than two weeks away from Vancouver`s Relay for Life, our group`s fundraising efforts are running with at full force. So far, we`ve had two bottle drives, a barbeque and a yard sale.
Right now, we`re hosing an online silent auction. We`ve had some pretty amazing donations for our auction, including an introductory flight lesson, a 1 hour massage package and some amazing pieces of fine art, including Crimson Cool by Sherry Cooper and V5Y by Michael Thiessen.
In one week – on Sunday May 30th at 7pm – we`re hosting an event at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Salons called Salon Soiree. Local musicians and a burlesque performer have donated their time and talents to entertain those who attend. Tickets are $10 each, and I`d love to see you there!
Through our collective effort, we`ve collected more than $1500. After our Salon Soiree and Silent Auction, I really believe that we may just reach our $10,000 goal! I`m so proud of our team!
